Marine Loading Arm
The marine loading & Unloading arm is designed to transfer fluid and gases between the storage tank and tanker vessels. The marine loading arm is used in wide range of applications from cryogenic ethylene, LNG to high temperature products, also some hazardous and corrosive fluids.
The loading & Unloading arm is used in chemical, petrochemical, LNG, LPG storage terminals, pharmaceutical, health-care and beverage. It is equipped with inboard arm, outboard arm, vapour recovery system, counterweight pantograph balancing mechanism,ERC(Emergency Release Coupling), QCDC(Quick Connect/Disconnect Coupling), PMS(Position Monitoring System) and visual & audible alarms.
It can be maneuvered manually, electro-hydraulically depending on size and type of loading arm.

Normally, loading arms can be installed on Jetty and buoy ship directly without any support else. The design and rebuilt for Jetty reference the load from loading arm.

Flow rate and pressure
Normally, the size of pipe and quantity bases on the max. Flow rate of medium and its loading efficiency.
The loading/unloading flow rate lies on the ability of pump, pipeline of jetty, oil tanker and the characteristic of medium transferred. It will bring vibration and destroy to Loading arm if the flux is over rating data (11m/s).

Marine Loading Arms Envelope (Actual drawing see attachments)
The connection area is that volume in space in which the loading arm should be connected to the ship flange. The area results from the min/max. manifold setback and sized of vessel(fully of light)at low or high tide
The manifold flange of the tanker can sway or surge for a certain vertical and horizontal displacement in this area, and it is safe for the flange to drift in this area. The area is a part of a sphere and its center of sphere is the swivel joint.
Operating personnel will be warned by audio / visual alarms. Product valves on the land and ship side should be closed to interrupt product transfer.
The alarm area is a cushion area out of the connection area and the drift area, and in this area the arm can not be loaded and unloaded. If the connection flange enters it , the alarm system of the arm can give visual and audio alarm, and the operator should take some measure to make the flange leave out of the area. Stop the hydro-transportation.
2 If there is DBV/ERS installed in the loading arm, it will close and cut off the connection from vessel when the second grade alarm device start-up, then the loading arm will uplift and lock at a position to avoid the oil vessel continue movement and destroy the loading arm.
Emergency Release System(ERS)
During loading or unloading of ship, some emergency occasion occurs due to fire or typhoon, the ship needs to escape from jetty quickly, also sometime because of tide, ship drifts away from working area. The ship will pull loading arms cause damage of arms and oil leakage, polluting environment.Collapsing of arms will cause serious accident and lost.
ERC(Emergency Release Coupling) is the right product to suitable to safety of loading procedure, it is designed as two ball valves to interconnect together. When emergency occurs, ERC will close both ball valves and release one valve on loading arm and the other part remains on the ship. So the loading arm and ship can automatically and quickly release to guarantee the safety and protection of environment.
Eminent ERS(Emergency Release System) comprises of ERC and other control system, to provide safe guarantee during fluid transfer procedure. Our hundreds of ERC performance proved a good reputation in numerous oil gas terminals.

If the ship drift makes angle of the inboard arm and outboard arm surpass than 135°, there is an alarming; if the angle surpass than 145°, the system start release function. The hydraulic cylinder drives the push rod to move downward, close the two shut-off valves and release the loading arm from the ship. After release, the hydraulic cylinder reset the push rod, the top valve moves with outboard arm and the bottom valve moves with the ship.
After the drift ship comes back the berthing position, the operator can move and connect flange of the lower shut-off valve to connect with the flange of upper shut-off valve which reserved on the loading arm. Then close the left and right clamp, lock the rod, nut and heel block. Finally, to use the special tool drives slotted nut to open the valve, to make the cam connect with the boss, then the reset could be finished.
4.Advantages of ERC
1)Sequential shut-off method is adopted to make the double ball valve release without fluid leakage.
2)An automatic mechanical pressure relief device is set at the top ball valve of the emergency release device, which automatically opens when the double ball valves disconnect, eliminating the hammering effect immediately and ensuring that the loading arm will not be out of balance.
3)The double soft seal and metal seal are adopted to provide enough guarantee time during separation between ship and jetty in the occasion of fire.
4)A booster device is set on the push rod mechanism of the emergency release device, which will automatically pop up when the hydraulic push rod is opened to ensure 100% disconnection.
